The Mastozoology Collection currently has 1 165 samples catalogued by skin and cranium, skin and skeleton, only skin, only cranium, complete skeleton, bone remainders and specimens in alcohol. It also has an accessory collection of prints in plaster molds and is in the process of developing the collection of embryos and samples prepared for exhibition. This collection is constituted by samples from the Southeastern States of Mexico, mainly the State of Chiapas, and Guatemala and Costa Rica. Taxonomically it represents 10 orders of land mammals registered for our country, as well as 27 families, 74 genera and 103 species, which represent 22.8% and 51.2% of the 451 and 201 species reported for Mexico and the State of Chiapas, respectively. The best represented taxonomic orders are Chiroptera, Rodentia and Canivora. The states of the country represented in the mastozoology collection are Chiapas with 89 species, Quintana Roo with 18 species, Campeche with 7 species and Oaxaca with one specie. In addition there is a species from Costa Rica (Choloepus hoffmanni) pertaining to the Xenarthra order.
