The Collection of the Annelida Polychaeta is unquestionably the Mexico’s principal one in this group and is recognized as the most important in the world in polychaetes of Mexico. The organisms contained in the collection cover broad marine and coastal zones of the country, both in the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific and Caribbean Sea, and ranging from superficial areas to depths of approximately 4 000 m. The National Atlas of Annelida Polychaeta contains 4 985 records corresponding to 44 families, 206 genera and 473 species and pertains to the SNIB. |
