The Herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden houses a vast collection of specimens of preserved plants that are catalogued according to standardized classification system. All the groups of plants -angiosperms, gymnosperms, ferns, moss, fungi, lichen, hepatic and algae- are represented by specimens collected throughout the world; however, the greatest emphasis has been placed on samples from America. This collection includes information on 5 families pertaining to Mimosaceae, Caesalpiniaceae, Fabaceae, Asteraceae and the Pteriodophyta Division of Mexico and Central America. The database includes 16 730 records corresponding to 354 genera and 2 728 species. |
